nounB1+Common in everyday speech and writing · #6,224 of 15,258leans written

Afghanistan is the mountainous Central Asian country of Kabul. Serve in Afghanistan, born in Afghanistan, the north of Afghanistan.

The Hindu Kush runs through it and the passes have decided its history, since anybody moving between Central Asia and India had to come through. Britain, the Soviet Union and the United States each fought there and each left, which is why it is called the graveyard of empires.
