alarm clock

nounA2Not compared — the two pools are counted one word at a time, so a phrase has no score

An alarm clock is the bedside clock that rings to wake you. The most hated object in any house at seven in the morning.

Mechanical ones had two bells and a hammer, and the noise was genuinely brutal. Phones have almost entirely replaced them, which is why sleep advice now includes keeping the phone out of the bedroom. The snooze button, invented in the 1950s, has done more damage to more mornings than any other feature. Setting one is a small nightly act of optimism.
