Aligned means lined up exactly with something else. The holes are aligned, aligned to the left, badly aligned wheels.
The physical sense is common in engineering, printing and design — text aligned left, aligned margins. The figurative sense has become at least as common in business and politics: aligned with the strategy, closely aligned interests, get everybody aligned. That use means agreeing rather than pointing the same way, and it is meeting-room language. Note the verb align and the noun alignment, and that a country's alignment means which side it is on.
