Other forms: armbands

An armband is an inflatable ring worn on the arm to keep a child up. A pair of armbands, blow up the armbands, swim without armbands.

Instructors are divided about them, because they hold a child upright rather than flat, which is the opposite of the swimming position. A black armband is a quite different thing: a mark of mourning, worn by teams after a death.
