Arrogance is an offensive sense of your own importance. Sheer arrogance, the arrogance of power, accused of arrogance.

It is confidence that has stopped noticing other people, which is what separates it from self-belief. It is also the charge most often made against people who are right, which makes it a difficult accusation to weigh. The Latin means to claim for yourself.
