Available means you can get it, use it, or speak to it now. The last seat available on the train; a doctor available at eight; a jacket that is not available in your size.
For people it means free — are you available on Thursday, is the manager available. For things it means in stock or on offer: widely available, readily available, available online. It takes TO for whoever may have it and FOR whatever it may be used: the report is available to members, the room is available for meetings. Informally it means unattached, as in he is single and available. The noun is availability. One trap worth naming: available does not mean free of charge, so a room available at eighty pounds still costs eighty pounds.

Available is a Middle English build, the verb avail with -able stuck on the end, the same -able that gives us readable and washable. It was written avayllable and avayleable for a while before the spelling settled into the form we use.
