A bank account is the arrangement with a bank that holds your money and lets you pay in and draw out. A number, a sort code and a balance.
The main types are a current account for everyday use and a savings account for money you are leaving alone. Opening one requires proof of identity and address, which is why people without a fixed address struggle, and being unbanked makes almost everything else harder. Joint accounts give both holders full access, which matters more than most couples realise.
1nounbank accountAn arrangement with a bank for holding and moving money.
“The money went straight into her bank account.”
Originally referring merely to the registry of transactions (deposits, withdrawals) for a fund held by a bank, the sense came to encompass the fund being held.
