A bar of soap is a solid block used with water to clean. It lathers, it shrinks, and eventually it splits in two.
Soap works by having one end of each molecule attracted to water and the other to grease, which is how it lifts dirt off skin. The bar is the oldest form and is having a return as people avoid plastic bottles. It goes soft if left in a puddle, which is why soap dishes have holes. Handling a wet one is a classic piece of physical comedy.
