Beans are seeds from pods that are cooked in soups, chilis, and salads. A tin of beans, kidney beans, beans on toast.

They are among the cheapest sources of protein there is, and they feed the soil while growing by fixing nitrogen through bacteria in their roots. Full of beans means lively, and to spill the beans means to give away a secret. Note that soaking dried beans shortens cooking and is not optional for kidney beans.
