beekeeper

US/ˈbiˌkipɚ/
nounB1+Rare in speech; mostly a word you read · #12,991 of 15,258neutral

Other forms: beekeepers

A beekeeper is a person who keeps bee colonies for honey. A local beekeeper, the beekeeper's smoke, work as a beekeeper.

The smoke masks the alarm signal the bees send each other, which is why it calms a hive rather than driving it out. A beekeeper takes only the surplus, since the colony needs enough honey left to survive the winter.
