bemused

UK/bɪˈmjuːzd/US/bɪˈmjuːzd/
adjectiveC1Rare in speech; mostly a word you read · #14,347 of 15,258leans written

Bemused means puzzled and unable to make sense of things. A bemused expression, look bemused, bemused by the question.

It does not mean amused, and the confusion between the two is so common that the wrong sense is spreading. Bemused is closer to bewildered: the person is not laughing, they are lost. The muse in it is an old verb meaning to stare or ponder.
