blowtorch

UK/ˈbləʊˌtɔːtʃ/US/ˈbloʊˌtoɹt͡ʃ/
nounB2+Occasional — familiar, but not everyday · #8,890 of 15,258leans spoken

Other forms: blowtorches

A blowtorch is a tool that makes a small very hot flame. Use a blowtorch, a plumber's blowtorch, blowtorch the sugar.

The flame is hot enough to melt solder and to caramelise sugar, which is why it belongs to both plumbers and pastry cooks. The blue inner cone is the hottest part, and that is where the work goes. Americans often say blowtorch where the British say blowlamp.
