blueberry

UK/ˈbluːb(ə)ɹi/US/ˈbluˌbɛ.ɹi/
nounA2+Common in everyday speech and writing · #5,185 of 15,258neutral

Other forms: blueberries

A blueberry is the tiny round dark-blue fruit that stains your fingers. Blueberry muffins, a punnet of blueberries, pick blueberries.

The dusty bloom on the skin is a natural wax and a sign of freshness, so rubbing it off is a mistake. The plant needs acid soil and will not grow in chalk without help. It is closely related to the bilberry, which is smaller and wild.
