bogie

UK/ˈbəʊ.ɡi/US/ˈboʊ.ɡi/
nounC2Occasional — familiar, but not everyday · #10,607 of 15,258leans written

Other forms: bogies

A bogie is the wheeled frame a railway carriage rests on. A four-wheel bogie, replace the bogie, bogie wheels.

It pivots, which is the whole point: a rigid carriage could not go round a curve, and putting the wheels on a turning frame at each end lets a long vehicle follow the track. Americans call it a truck. It is unrelated to bogey, the frightening creature.
