Other forms: bracelets
A bracelet is a band of metal, beads or leather worn round the wrist. A gold bracelet, a charm bracelet, a friendship bracelet.
It differs from a bangle, which is rigid and slips over the hand, while a bracelet usually fastens. A watch strap is not called a bracelet in ordinary speech though watchmakers use the word for a metal one. Note identity bracelet and medical alert bracelet, both of which carry information rather than decoration, and the informal use of bracelets to mean handcuffs, which is old police slang.

Old French bracelet is a small bracel, itself from bras, an arm, from Latin bracchium. The word says arm-let, and the same Latin arm gives brace, embrace and, at a distance, pretzel, from its crossed-arms shape.
