Other forms: briefings
A briefing is a short meeting giving people the information they need to act. A morning briefing, a press briefing, brief the team.
The point is that it is short and practical — a briefing tells people what to do, not everything about the subject. Press briefing, security briefing and pre-flight briefing are the standard kinds. To brief somebody is the verb, and a brief is the document or instructions. Note debriefing, which is the meeting afterwards to find out what happened, and off-the-record briefing, which is how a great deal of political news arrives.
