broker

UK/ˈbɹəʊkə/US/ˈbɹoʊkɚ/
nounB22 meaningsCommon in everyday speech and writing · #4,350 of 15,258neutral

Other forms: brokers, brokered, brokering

A broker is a person who arranges deals for other people. An insurance broker, a mortgage broker, broker a deal.

The broker never owns what is traded — that is the whole point, and it is what separates a broker from a dealer. As a verb it means to negotiate an agreement between others, as in broker a ceasefire. Note that the word once meant a small trader.
