cable car

UK/ˈkeɪ.bəl ˌkɑːɹ/US/ˈkeɪ.bəl ˌkɑɹ/
nounB1Not compared — the two pools are counted one word at a time, so a phrase has no score

A cable car is a car hauled up a slope on a moving rope. Ride the cable car, the cable car station, a cable car over the valley.

The cars do not have engines at all, since the rope moves and they grip it, which is why the system is so efficient. San Francisco's are the last manually operated ones running anywhere in the world.
