nounA2+Occasional — familiar, but not everyday · #11,415 of 15,258neutral

Celsius is the temperature scale where water freezes at zero. Twenty degrees Celsius, in Celsius, convert to Celsius.

It is named after the Swedish astronomer who proposed it, though he set it the other way up with zero at boiling. Almost every country uses it, and the older name centigrade was formally dropped in 1948.
