A changing room is the small room in a shop where you try clothes on. A mirror, a curtain, and a number of items counted on the way in.
American English says fitting room for the shop version and locker room for the sports one, while British English uses changing room for both. Sports changing rooms have their own culture, and the changing room is where a team talk happens, which is why journalists write about the mood in the changing room as though it were a place with opinions.
