charming

UK/ˈtʃɑː(ɹ).mɪŋ/
adjectiveB1Very common — you will meet it every day · #1,151 of 15,258leans spoken

Charming means pleasing and delightful. A charming village, a charming man, absolutely charming.

Of places and things it is warm and slightly old-fashioned praise; of people it can be double-edged, since charm is a skill and a charming person may be working at it. Said flatly, how charming means the opposite. Note that the word comes from charm in its magical sense — to charm was to cast a spell.
