checkup

UK/ˈt͡ʃɛkʌp/US/ˈt͡ʃɛkʌp/
nounB1Common in everyday speech and writing · #5,792 of 15,258leans spoken

Other forms: checkups

A checkup is a regular visit to the doctor when nothing is wrong yet. An annual checkup, go for a checkup, a dental checkup.

The point is to catch what has no symptoms yet — blood pressure, sight, the state of the gums. Evidence for the general annual checkup in healthy adults is surprisingly weak, though targeted screening at the right ages plainly works.
