Other forms: chessboards
A chessboard is the squared board the game of chess is played on. Set up the chessboard, across the chessboard, a marble chessboard.
It has sixty-four squares, and the white one goes on each player's right, which is the first thing anybody gets wrong. The same board is used for draughts. Figuratively it means an arena where moves are calculated against an opponent.
