choreographer

nounB2+Common in everyday speech and writing · #8,145 of 15,258leans written

Other forms: choreographers

A choreographer is somebody who invents and arranges dance steps. A resident choreographer, the choreographer's notes, work with a choreographer.

The hardest part of the job is recording the work, because dance has no universally used notation and most pieces survive only in dancers' bodies — which is why a company that stops performing a piece can lose it entirely within a generation.
