classroom

UK/ˈklɑːsɹʊm/
nounA1Common in everyday speech and writing · #3,920 of 15,258leans written

Other forms: classrooms

A classroom is the room where a teacher and pupils have their lessons. At the back of the classroom, classroom management, a bright classroom.

Its shape has barely changed in a century — rows facing forward — despite everything known about how people learn, largely because it is the cheapest way to fit thirty children in a room. Classroom management is the largest single factor in whether teaching works. Note that the compound is class plus room.
