closed

UK/kləʊzd/US/kloʊzd/
adjectiveA23 meaningsVery common — you will meet it every day · #710 of 15,258neutral

Closed means not open — nothing goes in or out. The shop is closed, a closed door, the road is closed.

Of a business it means not trading now; of a road, blocked. Closed also means finished as a matter: the case is closed. A closed group is one outsiders cannot join, and behind closed doors means in private, away from the public. Note closed-minded, meaning unwilling to consider new ideas, and that closed captions are subtitles you switch on. The opposite is open in every one of these senses.
