compass bearing

nounB2Not compared — the two pools are counted one word at a time, so a phrase has no score

A compass bearing is the direction taken from a magnetic needle. Take a compass bearing.

Magnetic north is not true north, and the difference must be allowed for on a map. A compass bearing is useless next to a car, a phone or anything else with iron in it.
