A crossroads is a place where two roads cross each other. At the crossroads, a village crossroads, meet at the crossroads.
The word is used as a singular — a crossroads — despite ending in s, which is unusual. Figuratively, being at a crossroads means facing a decision between different directions in life, and it is one of the most-used metaphors in careers advice. Note that crossroads carry old folklore: suicides were buried at them, and deals were said to be made there.
