crosswalk

nounB1+Occasional — familiar, but not everyday · #11,137 of 15,258neutral

Other forms: crosswalks

A crosswalk is the striped place on the road where walkers may go across. At the crosswalk, wait at the crosswalk, marked crosswalk.

It is the American word; Britain says pedestrian crossing, and the striped kind there is a zebra crossing. American law generally treats an unmarked corner as a crosswalk too, which surprises visitors.
