Other forms: deuces

A deuce is a playing card or a die showing two. The lowest card in most games, and one pip on a die.

The word came from French deux and it survives mainly in games. Tennis has the best-known use, where deuce is the score at forty all, from which somebody must win two points in a row. Craps has a deuce as well. There is an old euphemism for the devil, which survives in what the deuce is going on, a phrase that now sounds thoroughly Edwardian.
