Other forms: digits
A digit is a single numeral from zero to nine. A four-digit code, the last digit, six digits.
Any number is written as a string of digits, and the number of digits is how length is measured: a six-digit salary. In anatomy, a digit is a finger or a toe, which is the older sense and the reason the word exists — people counted on their fingers, which is also why base ten is standard. Note digital, which comes from the same counting; and that a digit is the symbol rather than the quantity.
