discriminating

UK/dɪsˈkɹɪmɪneɪtɪŋ(ɡ)/
adjectiveC1Occasional — familiar, but not everyday · #10,622 of 15,258leans written

Discriminating means showing fine judgement in taste. A discriminating palate, a discriminating reader, discriminating taste.

It is a compliment and it means telling fine differences apart, which is the original sense of discriminate. The word has been overshadowed by the sense about unfair treatment, and the two now pull in opposite directions — one is praise and the other is an accusation. Note discernment, which is safer.
