discussion

UK/dɪˈskʌʃ.ən/US/dɪˈskʌʃ.ən/
nounA2+Very common — you will meet it every day · #2,179 of 15,258leans written

Other forms: discussions

A discussion is a serious conversation weighing different views. More structured than a chat, less heated than an argument.

The word takes about or of, and it appears constantly in working life: a discussion about the budget, under discussion, open for discussion. There is a nice pair of fixed phrases, since something under discussion is being decided and something out of the question is not up for discussion at all. The verb is discuss, which never takes about after it, and that is one of the most common mistakes learners make.
