diverted

UK/daɪˈvɜːtəd/
adjectiveB2+Occasional — familiar, but not everyday · #9,270 of 15,258leans written

Diverted means sent to a different airport than planned. Diverted to Manchester, the flight was diverted, diverted for weather.

It happens for weather, for a medical emergency, or because a crew is running out of legal hours, and passengers are then a long way from where they meant to be with no easy remedy. Traffic and rivers are diverted too. Note divert; and that being diverted also means entertained.
