dosage

UK/ˈdəʊsɪd͡ʒ/US/ˈdəʊsɪd͡ʒ/
nounB2Common in everyday speech and writing · #5,947 of 15,258neutral

Other forms: dosages

Dosage is how much medicine to take and how often. The correct dosage, adjust the dosage, dosage instructions.

It covers the schedule as well as the amount, which is what distinguishes it from a dose — a dose is one amount and the dosage is the whole regime. Getting it wrong in either direction is the commonest medication error. Note that dosage for children is usually calculated by weight rather than age; and that the dosage on a label is the maximum rather than the target.
