doting

UK/ˈdəʊtɪŋ/US/ˈdəʊtɪŋ/
adjectiveB2+Rare in speech; mostly a word you read · #12,294 of 15,258neutral

Doting means showing excessive fondness. A doting father, doting grandparents, doting on her.

The excess is built in, and the word is affectionate about it — a doting parent is indulgent rather than wrong. It takes on. Note dotage, meaning the feebleness of old age, which comes from the same verb; and that dote originally meant to be foolish or in your second childhood.
