draw attention

phraseB2Not compared — the two pools are counted one word at a time, so a phrase has no score

To draw attention is to make people notice something. A raised voice in a quiet carriage, a red circle round one line of a page.

It takes to, and the thing noticed can be somebody else's problem or your own trousers: draw attention to the discrepancy, draw attention to yourself. Draw here is the pulling verb, so the picture is of eyes being tugged round. Attract is the neutral swap; call attention to is the formal one; and unwanted attention is the fixed phrase for what you get when you drew rather more than you meant to.
