draw up

phraseC12 meaningsNot compared — the two pools are counted one word at a time, so a phrase has no score

To draw up a document is to prepare it carefully. A contract, a list, a plan, a will.

It implies formality and deliberation, which is why solicitors draw up agreements and committees draw up guidelines. It splits round an object. There is a completely separate sense meaning to stop, since a car draws up outside a house, and it is a favourite of novelists. And drawing yourself up to your full height is what somebody does before saying something dignified.
