entitled

UK/ɪnˈtaɪtl̩d/US/ɪnˈtaɪtl̩d/
adjectiveB22 meaningsVery common — you will meet it every day · #2,254 of 15,258leans written

Entitled means having a right to something, or expecting one without cause. Entitled to a refund, an entitled attitude, entitled to know.

The two senses pull opposite ways: entitled to something is neutral and legal, and calling a person entitled is an insult. The word also means having a title — a book entitled something — which is the oldest sense of the three.
