eucalyptus

UK/ˌjuː.kəˈlɪp.təs/US/ˌjuː.kəˈlɪp.təs/
nounB2+Occasional — familiar, but not everyday · #10,628 of 15,258mostly written

A eucalyptus is an Australian tree with pale peeling bark and oily leaves. Eucalyptus oil, a stand of eucalyptus, the smell of eucalyptus.

The oil is flammable enough that the trees encourage fire and then regrow from buds under the bark, which is a strategy rather than an accident. Koalas eat almost nothing else, and the leaves are toxic to most other animals.
