Exposed means left open where anybody can see, or with no shelter. An exposed position, exposed wiring, exposed to the weather.
Of a place it means windswept and unprotected: an exposed hillside. Of wiring or pipework it means uncovered, which in electrical work is a hazard and in interior design is a style. Figuratively, exposed means vulnerable: exposed to criticism, financially exposed. And exposed also means revealed as dishonest: the scheme was exposed. Note exposure, which covers all of it plus the photographic sense.
