falafel

UK/fəˈlɑːfəl/US/fəˈlɑfəl/
nounB1+Occasional — familiar, but not everyday · #9,944 of 15,258leans spoken

Falafel is fried Middle Eastern balls made of ground chickpeas. A falafel wrap, fry the falafel, falafel and hummus.

The chickpeas are soaked and ground raw, never cooked first, which is the one rule that decides whether they hold together or fall apart in the oil. Egypt makes them with broad beans instead. They are naturally vegan and were street food long before that mattered.
