faraway

UK/ˈfɑɹəweɪ/US/ˈfɑɹəweɪ/
adjectiveB1+2 meaningsCommon in everyday speech and writing · #6,246 of 15,258leans spoken

Faraway means at a great distance. A faraway land, faraway places, a faraway look.

It goes before the noun and is faintly storybook — faraway lands belong to fairy tales more than to atlases. A faraway look means somebody is not attending to what is in front of them, and it is the commonest use of all. Note far away as two words, which is the adverb: he lives far away, but a faraway country.
