fiance

UK/fiˈɒ̃seɪ/US/fiˈɑnseɪ/
nounB1+Common in everyday speech and writing · #4,155 of 15,258mostly spoken

A fiance is the person you have promised to marry but haven't yet. Meet her fiance, my fiance, introduce your fiance.

It keeps the French gender endings — fiance for a man and fiancee for a woman — which English does for very few words. It is usually written with an accent. Engagement is not a legal state in most countries, though it once was actionable to break one off.
