Other forms: fittings
A fitting is a small part that joins or attaches something. A bracket, a connector, the metal collar on a pipe.
Plumbing and electrics use the word constantly, and the difference from fixtures matters when a house is sold, since fixtures are attached to the building and fittings can be taken away. There is a separate sense from tailoring, where a fitting is the appointment at which clothes are adjusted to your shape. As an adjective, fitting means suitable, so a fitting tribute is one that suits the occasion.
