forehead

UK/ˈfɔːhɛd/US/ˈfɔɹ.hɛd/
nounB1Common in everyday speech and writing · #2,871 of 15,258leans spoken

Other forms: foreheads

Your forehead is the part of your face above the eyebrows. Where a thermometer goes and where worry shows.

It is the front of the skull, and English calls the whole area the brow as well. It gives us a small set of gestures: slapping your forehead at your own stupidity, mopping it in heat, and pressing it against a window. Sweat appears there first. The word is written as one word, and the older pronunciation with a silent h has largely given way to one that says both parts.
