fried

UK/fɹaɪd/US/fɹaɪd/
adjectiveA2+Very common — you will meet it every day · #2,421 of 15,258neutral

Fried means cooked in hot fat. Fried eggs, deep-fried, fried in butter.

The browning is the Maillard reaction between sugars and proteins, and it needs heat above about a hundred and forty degrees — which is why food steamed in its own moisture never browns. Deep frying seals the surface and food absorbs less oil when the fat is hot enough.
