frisbee

nounB1Common in everyday speech and writing · #6,160 of 15,258neutral

Other forms: frisbees

A frisbee is the flying plastic disc people throw to each other in a park. Throw a frisbee, catch the frisbee, play frisbee.

Frisbee is a registered trade mark, which is why the sport is officially called ultimate or flying disc rather than ultimate frisbee. Disc golf is the other main competitive form. It flies by generating lift like a wing and is stabilised by its spin, which is why a wobbly throw drops. Note that dogs are better at catching them than most people, which is roughly half the reason they exist.
