The Gambia is Africa's smallest mainland country, a sliver along one river. Travel to the Gambia, the north bank of the Gambia, born in the Gambia.

It takes the definite article, which almost no other country does, and its shape follows the river it is named for — a strip of land a few dozen kilometres wide, surrounded on three sides by Senegal. Banjul is the capital.
