get through

UK/ɡɛt ˈθɹu/US/ɡɛt ˈθɹu/
phraseB22 meaningsNot compared — the two pools are counted one word at a time, so a phrase has no score

To get through is to survive a hard stretch — or to reach somebody by telephone. Two senses about making it to the other side.

The surviving sense is warm and very common, so getting through the week is what people say when the week is bad. The telephone sense is about connection, and being unable to get through is the standard complaint about any call centre. There are two more: getting through work means completing it, and getting through to somebody means finally making them understand.
